This image is NOT Comcomly – it was drawn in 1841 by the artist of the US Exploring Expedition commanded by Lt. Charles Wilkes and is George, a Chinook pilot.
Your suggestion made me do a little searching for the original Image. You are right that this is not Comcomley, but in the Wilkes book he is labelled as Ramsey, while George has another image. Perhaps a few years ago I thought this may be Comcomley because he is normally described as being blind in one eye, which Ramsey appears to be. Thanks for the correction, It made me do the research and find the correct attribution. Corrections are always welcome as we uncover all the mistakes in our histories.
