Hello…thank you for all the research work you have published. I am Frank Summers mother and a grand ronde tribal elder (86 yrs on 4-28-2020). Can you find Tchinouk in your studies? It was the published name of the tribal people who were “discovered” by Captain Gray when he “discovered” and named the Columbia River May 7, 1792.. This was information contained in his handwritten journals of the voyage which were translated and printed by
MRS. J.B. EYRIES AND MALTE-BRUN.. VOLUME X. PARIS, 1821 NEW ANNALS OF VOYAGES, GEOGRAPHY, AND HISTORY.
Some of the oldest documented records for the Tchinouk people are in the early Catholic Church records published in the Vancouver Stellamaris Mission accounts from the Catholic church records of the Northwest. The Mantle of Elias book also has published names information. I believe the Catholic church records from St. Paul and the Roseburg area have similar information…. Thank you for sharing your research. Claudette Parazoo
